The aim of the project is to create AI opponents for the game Board Wars, which was developed by myself for the 3rd year Games Programming Module. Board Wars is similar to chess, but builds upon the rules of chess, combining it with other chess like games and its own additional mechanics. The AI opponents should provide a player with significant challenge so that the game can feel challenging while at the same time not being so challenging that a player feels there is no chance of success. The aim is to develop 3 AI opponents which all use different methodology to determine their next move; a random number generator based AI, a brute force evaluation AI and a goal based AI. Testing will reveal which of these methods produces the greatest challenge to a human player.
